I just completed a mastermind class with Rock-Star Shaman Alyson Charles, and in our last class she asked us the question "if you had to give a talk right now to 20,000 people, what would it be?" We had to write the first thing that came to mind. Instantly I knew mine would be "How to find love, joy and peace in life within yourself." There was no doubt that this would be my talk and I felt really confident about it. A day later one of my classmates and soul sisters, Linda Tate Andrews, asked if any of us would be guests on her podcast, The Lila Life Show, and showcase our talk. I was flattered and responded right away, YES! Then I thought, oh crap, what would I actually talk about?
One of my favorite things to do is to go to different coffee shops to write while I enjoy a cup of coffee. I ventured to a new coffee shop in San Diego, sat down, and put my pen to my paper to see what I would say for my talk. There is something very magical and profound that happens for me when I begin writing with a pen and paper. The cup of coffee helps too. :) As soon as I began writing the information for my talk just flowed out onto the paper effortlessly.
Now I'm sure you are wondering, how do you find love, joy and peace within yourself? Good question. The first problem is we see ourselves as incomplete. We don't think of ourselves as being whole. We continue to seek outside of ourselves for external things to bring us the feelings of peace, love, joy, happiness, etc. We think that once we get the partner, the car, the job, take that dream vacation, that we will be happy and feel fulfilled. Maybe these things do make us feel great for a little bit, but after a while the feeling begin to fade and you begin to look for the next best thing. Once you can understand this, you can begin to be aware and realize that you are already complete. You don't need anything or anyone to make you feel a certain way. We choose our emotions and how we want to feel.
One reason that we feel incomplete is because of our attachment to things: family members, friends, spouses, homes, clothes, material goods, toys, jobs, and even beliefs and mindsets. Having attachments sets us up for disappointment, anger, grief and sadness to name a few. Whenever we lose any of these things, it triggers negative or lower vibrational emotions within us. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have any of these things, we just need to look at the attachment to them. Lets face it, we live in a material world and we need material things to survive. But we also have to be okay when certain things are no longer in our life. What happens if something happens to your house or your car and you need a new one? Would you be upset? Distraught? Or would you be okay knowing you can get another one?
In the western world, we tend to have a lot of things. Maybe you have some clutter in your home, garage, or car from all of these things. What happens when you realize that you don't NEED all of these things? When you being to create detachment emotionally or physically clear out spaces and get rid of things, you release energy. Everything in this world is energy. One of the laws of the Universe is the the more you give, the more you receive. So as you get rid of things, you get rid of old stagnant energy which makes room for fresh higher vibrational energy to come into your life.
I get it, these are not easy concepts to wrap your brain around and put into practice. Other tools that you can use to bring more peace, love and joy into your life are:
1. MEDITATE. Even if it is only for five minutes a day and your mind is racing the entire time. One of the first steps of meditation is to just observe your thoughts as they come into your awareness. Our mind is always in flux and it can be very difficult to calm and tame it. Just let your thoughts run wild, but be in a state of observation as a 3rd party witness. Whenever your mind wanders, continue to bring it back to your breath. Over time as you build a habit of meditation, it will become easier.
2. GRATITUDE. I encourage you to write or think about three things you are grateful for every day. This practice is even more effective if you can do it as soon as you wake up. For example, my first thought every morning is I am so grateful to be alive and feel the air in my lungs. I then continue with other thoughts of gratitude. If you are able to start your morning with gratitude and positive thoughts you can improve your life.
3. FIND THE SILVER LINING. This was one of the most profound lessons I ever learned. It is sometimes really difficult to find something to be grateful for in a not so great situation. Believe me, I have been there. If you can shift your mindset from negative to positive, you can change your reality. There is always something good in every situation and experience. Maybe you learn something about yourself and your boundaries that you can be grateful for learning, because then you won't have to experience something similar in the future. Say thank you Universe, I now understand this. That undesired experience can then be a positive one because there was something positive and uplifting for you in it.
These are just a few things that you can begin to incorporate into your daily life to bring about a life full of peace, love, and joy. If you would like more in depth explanations and guidance, please reach out to me or book one of my soul alignment sessions. I hope that these tips will help you find the peace, love, and joy within yourself because you are a beautiful complete being.
